these are some hairstyles that I think are appropriate for school! They take no more than 5 - 10 minutes and some require little to no heat. The first section is just different braided hairstyles. The second section is mainly for long hair and the third section is mainly for short hair. Of course, you can do whatever you want! I didn’t know how to categorize all of these so they’re a bit random. With all of these hairstyles you can add clips, headbands, accessories! Customize them to bring out your personality and your own.
1. Braids
- Braids inside a braid: Seperate your hair into 3 sections as if you were about to do a traditional braid. Take one of those sections and braid it and secure with an elastic. Then take the other two sections and braid with the braided section. When you get to the bottom, take the elastic out of the braided section and use it to tie the whole thing together. Then tug at the braid to widen it. This technique will add body and make your braid look thicker. And that’s it! It looks like a 4 strand braid sometimes!
- Messy effortless braid: Tease your crown by hair spraying then back combing it. Smooth it out then begin to french braid your entire head, but stop when there’s an inch or two left. Then take a few strands out and tease the ends of it. You can loosely curl it if you want it to look a bit messier.
- Half up, half down braid: Braid two small sections of hair that are near your forehead/temples. Braid all the way down then secure with an elastic. Then bring those two braids back and carefully take the small elastics out. Then using another elastic, tie them both together.
- Braided headband: Take a section of hair above or behind your hair that is fairly long. Comb it out and up to make sure there are no tangles. Then begin braiding. To make it easier to form it into a headband, braid up. Once you’re finished braiding, bring it over your head and to your other ear. You can either tie it with a small elastic then bobby pin it, or just pin it. Make sure your braid is hidden by your other hair! You can also bobby pin the braid on top into place.
- Braided bun: Gather your hair up into a high ponytail (or side, or low, doesn’t really matter) then secure with a small elastic. Then separate the ponytail into two sections and braid them. Secure each side with a small elastic. Then start wrapping it around the core of the ponytail to create a bun! Because you’re doing it in two sections, it’ll be thicker. Bobby pin the bun into place.
- Braided bangs: Grab your bangs and separate them into 3 sections. Then begin french braiding. When you’re finished, hide the hair behind your ear and secure it with an elastic and bobby pin it in place. Tug at the braid to add volume, body, and thickness.
2. Long Hair
- Twisties: Take two section by the temples/forehead and start twisting them back. Then bobby pin it into place. You can have your hair curled or straight. Also, for extra volume tease the crown and smooth it out.
- Top Knot: Tie your hair into a sleek high ponytail. If you have any flyways, spray your fingers with hairspray and smooth it out. If you have a chignon, use that. I’m pretty sure if you have a chignon, you know how to use it. Why else would you have one? If you don’t, no worries! If you hair is thick, go ahead and start twisting your hair around the core of the ponytail. If it’s fine, you have two options. 1) Twist and bobby pin as you go. 2) Separate it into 2 sections and twist and bobby pin as you go. Both of these techniques will prevent tall looking buns and come out with one that is shorter, wider, thicker, and appear to have more body.
- Criss Cross Bun: This is similar to the braided bun except your twisting rather than braiding. So put your hair into a high, low, side ponytail, whichever one your prefer. Then tie it with a regular hair tie. Then separate your ponytail into 2 section and start crossing them over each other. Then secure it with a small elastic and start wrapping it around the core of the ponytail. Make sure the bun is more flat than it is tall. This technique creates more body and thickness. Also, you get to see the criss cross detail more. Make sure the end is hidden under the bun then bobby pin it into place.
3. Short Hair
- Tousled waves: You can curl your hair with a curling wand, iron, or a straightener. It doesn’t really matter because the curls are (hopefully!) going to fall into waves later. First, tease your hair at the crown. Then curl 1 - 2 inch sections of hair going in the same direction. When you’re finished, tease the roots to add volume. Then you can either lightly comb or lightly finger brush your curls so they become waves or so they can stick together and become vintage. Whether or not you want to add hairspray is up to you. It depends on your hair.
- Inverted braid: A.k.a. Dutch braids! There are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube showing how to Dutch braid. I can’t explain it into words, but I can tell you why this is great for short hair here!
- Twisted rows: Take small sections of hair and bring it back, then begin twisting it. Once you’re finished twisting it bobby pin it in place. Do this to all the hair around the face. Then with the hair in back, put it into a bun or ponytail.
